Which Leaf are you driving?
Almost every Leaf in New Zealand is an ex-Japan import. The battery size tells us most of what we need to know about how it ages and what it needs.
Gen 1 · 24 kWh
The original Leaf. A 3.3 kW charger, resistive heater, and a pack now down to around three to five bars, a short-trip car unless it gets a bigger battery. We check pack health, the 12V and brakes seized by regen.
Gen 1 ZE0 faults & servicing →
Gen 2 · 24 & 30 kWh
A 6.6 kW charger and a heat pump on some grades, and later cars on revised chemistry that holds up better. Early 30 kWh packs had a well-known battery management fault that overstated degradation, we read the true state of health.
Gen 2 AZE0 faults & servicing →
ZE1 40 kWh Leaf
The second-generation Leaf. Holds capacity well; the thing owners feel is rapidgate, rapid-charging slowing right down on a hot day or on back-to-back charges. Also needs its reduction-gear oil and coolant looked after.
ZE1 40 kWh faults & servicing →
ZE1 e+ 62 kWh Leaf
The long-range e+. Stronger motor, more weight through tyres and suspension, and the same scheduled items as the 40 kWh. Battery health on these is generally excellent, we'll confirm it on paper.

Everything a Leaf needs
No engine, no gearbox, no cambelt, but brakes, tyres, suspension, coolant, the 12V battery and the high-voltage pack all still wear and still need eyes on them.

The workshop that knows this car
We've been importing, converting and maintaining Nissan Leafs for over a decade, thousands of them. When your Leaf comes in, it's seen by people who work on nothing else half the week, not a general mechanic guessing at an EV.
Luan went out of his way to accommodate us. We had a very tight timeline in which the vehicle needed to be ready, including getting a new WOF and having new tyres fitted. He managed to get everything sorted within the hour. Incredible service, communication, and commitment to making it happen.
I dropped my car off before 8 and received a call at 10:30 to say the work had been done and was ready to collect. It was seamless and the staff were efficient, professional and friendly. I have used GVI for many years and would not go anywhere else.
Efficient and friendly service. Comfortable lounge and coffee machine. Great place to get WOF and service. Very helpful staff. Highly recommend.
Great experience at this repair shop! The prices are reasonable, no hidden fees. They have all the proper certifications, which gives you that extra peace of mind knowing the work is done to a high standard. Professional team and quality work.
Great service. The staff are very accommodating and nice. They are very reliable and it gives you relief that your car is taken care of. They did a series of tests to diagnose what happened and gave a clear explanation. They provided a nice courtesy car to use while my car stayed at their shop.
Good team, good pricing and just a pleasure to deal with. The family car needed a number of repairs prior to a WOF. The GVI team got it sorted on time at a good price.
Great service and at a reasonable price. Also very quick turnaround time. Highly recommended!!
